The third collaborative collection between Song for the Mute and adidas Originals, titled ‘SFTM-003’, conjures a nostalgic atmosphere while maintaining a distinct contemporary essence.
This collection reimagines the iconic Country OG silhouette, infusing it with three 90’s-inspired colorways. These include pale grey and teal nylon reminiscent of vintage windbreakers, classic black leather with suede detailing, and metallic D-ring hardware paired with a custom paracord-inspired toggle lacing system – alluding to a sense of futuristic nostalgia.
Creative Director Lyna Ty brings a modernist approach to heritage silhouettes, infusing the apparel range with innovative fabrication and detailing. The collection includes eight garments that explore new textile directions and techniques.
Sherpa fleece zip-up jackets feature digital printed contrast sleeves and logo embroidery. Distressed jersey hoodies in brown and teal are complemented by an oversized blazer and press-stud track pants, both crafted from lightweight coated cotton. A custom jacquard knitwear with intricate contrasting color-work completes the range.
The accompanying campaign, captured by acclaimed photographer Atsushi ‘Jima’ Nishijima, showcases an intermediate, off-kilter energy. Collaborating with Art Director and Stylist Stephen Mann, the duo captures candid, behind-the-scenes moments of actors against city backdrops and transitory spaces like back alleyways and metal scaffolding. This approach allows Jima to highlight the beauty of unscripted, in-between moments.
Hair artist Erol Karadag introduces theatrical period wigs, enriching the overarching narrative. Counterposed within the modern environment, the wigs introduce an element of time-travel and drama that further supports the heritage and modernist themes explored by Ty throughout her collections.
