Following a string of collaborations with renowned names like fragment design, UNDEFEATED, and Kasina, the iconic Converse Weapon and its low-top counterpart, the Weapon Ox, make a triumphant return to the brand’s roster just ahead of the NBA’s All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.
Originally launched in 1986, the Weapon quickly became the shoe of choice for basketball stars of the late 80s and early 90s. Now, Converse aims to introduce these legendary silhouettes to a new generation by meticulously recreating the original designs and material compositions. Both models boast premium leather uppers, classic Star Chevron overlays, clean egret cup soles and outsoles, and the Weapon’s signature Y-bar detailing.
While a revamped version featuring an updated CX foam midsole debuted in 2020 as part of Converse’s CX line, and a bold reinterpretation by Rick Owens emerged as the TURBOWPN in 2021, this relaunch focuses on staying true to the Weapon’s roots.
Leading the charge for the revived Weapon is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the All-NBA First Team point guard and two-time All-Star. He steps into the role once held by 80s stars who dominated the court in the Weapon, carrying the torch forward and ushering in a new chapter for the shoe’s storied legacy.
The new release captures the spirit of the original with classic colorways like black and natural ivory, along with fresh options like vintage white, ash stone, and egret. The Weapon Ox joins the party in white and black, alongside vintage white and vintage cargo. Both silhouettes will be available starting February 8th on converse.com and at select retailers, ready to reintroduce the world to a basketball legend.
