Burbank, CA (February 7, 2024) – Demigods rejoice! “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” the Disney+ series based on Rick Riordan’s beloved book series, has been officially renewed for a second season. The announcement was made today by Disney CEO Bob Iger, with over 110 million hours streamed since the show’s debut.
Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri will return as Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, embarking on a new adventure inspired by “The Sea of Monsters,” the second book in Riordan’s saga.
“Rich in magic, wonder, adventure, and heart, ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ has captivated audiences of all ages,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “We’re thrilled to continue this exciting journey with Rick Riordan, our partners at 20th Television, and the talented cast and crew.”
Riordan himself echoed the excitement: “I can’t wait to bring the next season of Percy Jackson to Disney+! Raise anchors, hoist the mainsail, and all hands on deck, demigods! We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!”
The series premiered as one of the top 5 debuts of 2023, with the first episode racking up 26.2 million views in its first three weeks. Additionally, the #percyjackson hashtag gained over 1 billion views on TikTok in the US alone within the last month, and the show’s social media channels have amassed a combined 4.6 million followers.
The success of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” has extended beyond the screen. The “Percy Jackson” books climbed back to the #1 spot on the New York Times Bestseller list for Middle Grade series after the show’s launch. On the merchandise front, Hot Topic launched a clothing line while Barnes & Noble released stationery sets inspired by the series.
Season one of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, is currently streaming on Disney+.
