FIS ALPINE WORLD CUP
January 23: Schladming, Austria
Marco Odermatt (SUI) -1st- Odermatt continued another majestic season on the slopes with first place in Tuesday night’s Schladming giant slalom by 0.05s from Austrian Manuel Feller with Slovenian Zan Kranjec third. Odermatt now leads the GS standings by 215 points and overall by 596.
January 24: Schladming, Austria
Clément Noël (FRA) -3rd- Noël took third place in the famous Schladming night slalom, finishing 1.02s behind winner Linus Strasser of Germany, with Norway’s Timon Haugan in second. The race was held in challenging wet conditions that saw 19 DNFs on the first run and seven on the second.
January 26: Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy
Sofia Goggia (ITA) -3rd- Goggia tied with Austrian Christina Ager and Canadian Valerie Grenier for third place behind Austrian winner Stephanie Venier with Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami in second place.
January 27: Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy
Sofia Goggia (ITA) -3rd- Goggia made it two third-place finishes in two days in the downhill event in Italy. The 31-year-old finished behind American Jacqueline Wiles in second, while Norway’s Ragnhild Mowinckel took first place. The result leaves Goggia 89 points ahead of Venier in the downhill standings.
January 27: Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany
Loic Meillard (SUI) -3rd- Switzerland’s Meillard edged out compatriot Marco Odermatt for the final spot on the podium in Saturday’s Super-G. The 27-year-old was just 0.07 behind Guglielmo Bosca in second, while Nils Allegre was the surprise winner.
FIS SKI JUMPING WORLD CUP
January 27: Ljubno, Slovenia
Alexandria Loutitt (CAN) -3rd- Loutitt continued her excellent run of form as she claimed third place in Slovenia. The Canadian finished behind Slovenia’s Nika Prevc in second and Austria’s Eva Pinkelnig in first.
FIS SKI-FLYING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
January 27: Bad Mitterndorf, Austria
Andreas Wellinger (GER) -2nd- Wellinger claimed a silver medal at the Ski-Flying World Championship following a hugely entertaining competition in Austria. Stefan Kraft won the gold in front of his home fans, with Slovenia’s Timi Zajc securing the bronze.
FIS ALPINE SNOWBOARD WORLD CUP
January 25: Rogla, Slovenia
Benjamin Karl (AUT) -1st- Austrian Karl picked up his third Parallel Giant Slalom victory of the 2023/24 FIS World Cup season with a comfortable victory over Italian Aaron March in the final with another Italian Mirko Felicetti in third place.
January 27: Simonhöhe, Austria
Benjamin Karl (AUT) -2nd- Karl narrowly missed out on his fourth win of the season after he lost out to Italy’s Daniele Bagozza in the final of the Parallel Giant Slalom. Fabian Obmann claimed third after beating Roland Fischnaller in the semi-final.
WINTER X GAMES ASPEN, USA
January 26, Aspen, USA
Scotty James (AUS) -1st- Australia’s James won a sixth Aspen gold medal as he successfully defended his Snowboard SuperPipe title, with his best run of 93 helping him to finish ahead of Japan’s Ruka Hirano and Kaishu Hirano.
Mitsuke Ono (JPN) -2nd- Ono claimed a deserved silver medal in the Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe competition, finishing behind runaway leader Chloe Kim of America and well clear of China’s Xuetong Cai in third place.
Tess Ledeux (FRA) -1st- Ledeux won her ninth X Games medal as she dominated the Ski Big Air competition to claim the gold. She finished well ahead of Anastasia Tatalina in second and Rell Harwood in third. It was the fourth time the French skier has won the Big Air title.
Jesper Tjäder (SWE) -3rd- Tjäder was unable to successfully defend his Ski Knuckle Huck title from last year but did once again claim a medal as he finished in third place. American Colby Stevenson claimed first place, with Sweden’s Henrik Harlaut finishing second.
Mac Forehand (USA) -3rd- Forehand claimed a bronze medal in the Ski Slopestyle competition. Norway’s Birk Ruud secured first place, with American Alex Hall finishing second.
Eileen Gu (CHI) -1st- Gu extended a near three-year Ski Halfpipe win streak as she claimed gold in Colorado. Having missed the event last year through injury, the 20-year-old finished well clear of Brit Zoe Atkin who took second and Amy Fraser in third.
FIS CROSS COUNTRY WORLD CUP
January 27: Goms, Switzerland
Linn Svahn (SWE) -1st- Sweden’s Svahn secured first place in the women’s sprint race in freestyle technique as she finished well clear of compatriot Maja Dahlqvist in second. Jonna Sundling claimed third place to make it a clean sweep on the podium for Swedish athletes.
